Elafonisi Beach is situated southwest of the island of Crete. Elafonisi is a rectangle, which often “breaks” in two parts by water giving the impression of being a distinct island. Elafonisi has an area of 2000 area. The island has plenty of of dunes with sand lilies and jupiners (like-cedars trees). The endangered turtle’s careta careta and several uncommon animals nest on the island and it is strictly prohibited to remove any plants, animals and sand from the area. At the top point on the island there is a plaque that honors a tragic event. The crystal clear water and with the white sand will catch you eye. Right in front of this beautiful long beach you’ll see a small island connected to the shore by a sandy isthmus. Elafonisi Beach itself appears to be like the Libyan sea and is incredibly nice all the year around. In summers you will discover sun beds firmly packed along the beach and hundreds of people enjoying the warm waters of the lagoon.
