Coit Tower San Francisco, California

" "

Coit Tower is located in San Francisco, California. The Tower was built in 1933. Local authorities ordered a prominent artist from San Francisco to form the inside of the tower with murals, as part of the public work related to the commercial project. The art of the project was completed in 1934. A documented historical fact is that it was a noncommercial project for the construction of the tower, which became a prototype for a new direction in art, known as a new taste, which started in 1934 and completed at the beginning of World War II. The ideas of the frescoes in the tower became the main themes in the works of many artists who work on government projects across the country.

The tower rises to the top of Telegraph Hill, which is located near Embarcadero, North Beach and the Financial District. At a special site, which can be reached by an elevator, you can see panoramic views of the city and bay. From the tower can be seen the Golden Gate Bridge, the Bay Bridge and the famous curves of Lombard Street. At the base of the tower can be viewed frescoes from during the Great Depression.
They depict life in California t that time, they are sophisticated in style, with contemporary realism. The height of the tower is sixty-four meters. It is a cylinder in which you will find a gift shop. Front of the tower has a small parking area with a statue of Columbus. Unfortunately, parking is often congested because of the great interest of visitors to Coit Tower. After you exit the tower, you can stroll along the famous steep stairs of Filbert Street, which are three hundred seventy-seven and are angled at thirty-one degrees and a half.

Coit Tower was built in 1933 and designed by architect Henry Howard in the art deco with financial support from Lilly Hitchcock Coit, which the tower itself is named after. Lily actually ordered the construction of the tower. This lady was quite eccentric and always insisted that her decisions be implemented. Lily Coit was quite emancipated, smoked cigars in public places, entrained by gambling and lived extensively. The fact that she was rich, leads people to ignore her strange behavior that was beyond any norms at the time.

Lily Coit was directly obsessed with fighting fires. This is due to the fact that when she was little, she was rescued from conflagration. Later, she came to the firefighters’ most cruel fires. Lily got involved in fighting fires alongside men without her fear for her own life. At the time, fires were a common thing, because of the construction of buildings using flammable materials. When Lily died, she left behind no legacy. All the money was invested in building a high tower, which had to stop fires, save lives, and allow for wonderful views of the city. From the tower you can enjoy a breathtaking view of wild parrots that fly over Telegraph Hill. They are countless and when not flying, they are landing on the trees around Coit Tower.
