If there is a place in the world that is extremely inhospitable to visitors and tourists, it's Skeleton Coast. The Bushmen call the area, The Earth created by God when he was angry, and the Portuguese sailors called it, The doors to hell.
This is actually the most untravelled park of our entire planet, because of bad climate and a dark past, which connects the shore. The filmy coastlin however has an amazing diversity of flora and fauna.
Skeleton Coast
Geographically the Skeleton Coast occupies the northern Atlantic coast of Namibia in the area south of the mouth of the Kunene River in Angola which is border to the mouth of Ugab again in a southerly direction.
Permanent fog haunts the area and drastic temperature fluctuations which ranges from 6 to 36 degrees, but never falls below freezing. In the morning the inner part of the land is warmer, but with the progress of the day it gets cooler. The diffuse of water vapor is always a sign of frosty nights.
Consequently the dense fog, powerful surf, fluctuating currents and not least the large number of whales provokes shipping to be extremely dangerous. For hundreds of years there have been numerous incidents of which the remains are evident to this day ashore. Survivors who were lucky enough to survive themselves were virtually trapped. The nearest towns and fresh water sources are hundreds of miles from there, and ultimately death was inevitable.
Most of the coast of skeletons is one of the oldest land surfaces and it is estimated that its age is about 1.5 billion years. Southern coast of skeletons enters into the tourist area on the west coast. This region is very rich in fish and many fishermen come ashore, organizing large fishing camps. The area north of the Torah Bay to the border with Angola is included in the national park, but access to it is limited.
A few kilometers north of the Bay Torah is a canyon, whose river has cut through brightly colored rocks. There has formed the only waterfall in the desert. To the north near the confluence of the river meets Goarusib another landmark that can not be seen with the naked eye but can be heard. This is phenomenon is called, the roaring dunes of Terrace Bay.
