Taipei 101 (Taipei World Financial Center) is a landmark skyscraper located in Xinyi District, Taipei, Taiwan. The building official as the highest ranking in the world from 2004 until the opening of Khalifa Burj Dubai in 2010. Taipei 101, designed by C.Y. Lee & partners and constructed primarily by Samsung Engineering & Construction. The tower has served as an icon of modern Taiwan since the opening, and receive Emporis Skyscraper Award 2004. Fireworks launched from Taipei 101 feature prominently in international New Year’s Eve broadcast and structure often appear in the literature of travel and international media.

Taipei 101 consists of 101 floors above ground and 5 floors underground. The building was built as a symbol of the evolution of technology and tradition of Asia. postmodernist approach to the style combines elements of traditional design and provide them with modern treatment. The tower is designed to withstand typhoons and earthquakes. A multi-level shopping center adjacent to the tower houses hundreds of fashionable, restaurant and club stores.



Wall characteristics Taipei 101 which is a blue-green glass curtain is double paned and glass, offer UV protection and adequate heat to an external heat block at 50 percent, and can sustain the impact of 7 tonnes (8 short tons). Recycled water meets 20-30 percent of water needs of the building. Upgrades currently being done to make Taipei 101 “green tallest building in the world” according to LEED standards in the summer of 2011.

Double-deck elevators built by Toshiba Elevator and Building Systems Japan Corporation (TELC) set a new record in 2004 with peak climb speed 16.83 m (55.22 ft) per second (60.6 km / h, 37.7 miles / hr). Each elevator features aerodynamic body, full air pressure, state-of-the-art emergency braking systems, systems and the world’s first triple-stage anti-overshoot.
